In spite of the rain, some progress

In spite of heavy rains this week, the framers have been working every chance they have. The framing for the roof and the sub-roof (that is probably not the right term) are in.

Visitors come

My two grandsones, Ryan and Joshua (ages 9 & 7) checked out the house while visiting this week. They have decided it is cool! They especially liked the big trucks, the giant piles of lumber and the fact that we have the whole neighborhood to ourselves... ah well.

With the second floor framed and the roofline beginning to be defined, you can begin to see just what the house will look line. Gary was right, we can finally "see" the house!

A view from the driveway and a closer look at the front of the house.

Views from behind. Tom loves the windows in the four-season room. You can see where the deck will be with access from the kitchen as well as the four-season room.

A view of the four-season room from the entryway. That great hole is the fireplace, which will be flanked with a pair of French doors leading out.

A view of the hall from the Kitchen, Tom's heading for the bedroom. The guest bath to his left and the entry on the right.

The kitchen and the library, with a view of the garage beyond.

These pictures, take from the second floor guest room overlook the entry and master bedroom.

The main bath is pictured here on the left and below is my studio.

Color choices

We wanted to select colors that would be true to the style of the house, allow it to blend into its surroundings but not get lost in the woods. A weekend driving around staring at houses and roofs and we know what we didn't want! Another week, and some play time on the Certainteed interactive website (http://colorview.certainteed.com) and we made up our minds.
The siding will be "Silver Ash", a soft taupe. The roof will be "Birchword", a medium grey with a cobblestone feel to it. And the trim just below the roofline will be "Box of Nails" which is a warm gray. The look is elegant, with a natural feel to it. It tones down the formality of the style without betraying the elegant lines. We're happy!
Let's hope the kitchen will go as smoothly. Probably not!
